Our Denomination
Community Cup is a part of the Church of the Nazarene. Don't let that long name scare you—we have a story unlike many others.
Someone once asked, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" This was Jesus' hometown. So Jesus was considered a Nazarene.

We took on the name (Nazarene) to be like Jesus and to affiliate ourselves with people that others might prefer to avoid.

Our history begins in the heart of LA when many churches were fleeing the city because of problems, homelessness, alcohol and addiction struggles, we decided to be present and find the good in those where others argued no good could be found. The Church of the Nazarene is now a global family and today, there are more Nazarenes outside of the USA than inside the USA.
What We Believe
We believe in one God, who exists as Divine Community—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This Divine Loving Community models for us the way we should live, with God and with another divine loving community: the Church.
We believe the Old and New Testament Scriptures are divinely inspired and contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living. We believe the bible is sacred, a unified story that leads to Jesus. It must be studied and interpreted humbly with the Holy Spirit, in context, and in community.
We believe all people are created in God’s image. The image of God is male and female, equal and together representing the image of God. Sin invaded God’s good creation and consequently, all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God.
We believe the grace and redemption offered through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race and whoever repents (returns to God) and believes (trusts with embodied allegiance) in the Lord Jesus Christ is justified, given new life, and is saved from the bondage of sin.
We believe that God does not just forgive, God also liberates believers into Christlikeness. We call this being sanctified, made holy, Christian perfection. More than a destination to arrive at, Christlikeness is a direction to pursue because there is always more room for us to grow in Christlikeness. We often pray that each time we gather, we will leave living and loving more like Jesus.
We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place. God is the perfect judge and it is good news that one day, every wrong will be made right. Until that day comes, we get to join God in God’s mission of redemption, restoration, and renewal here and now. We pray what Jesus taught us, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, here on earth as it is in heaven.”
Community Cup Church is a place that shows up for God and for each other. We want to see God's Kingdom come and God's will be done, in Kankakee (and beyond) as it is in heaven. We genuinely welcome anyone. For however long you are with us, we are glad you are with us.
OUR MISSION
Calling all people to live and love like Jesus.
