The Good Life: Season 3, Episode 1

ree

Hello there, church and anyone else reading!

This week we began the final part of this year’s study of the Sermon on the Mount. We have read two whole chapters of Matthew together, and now we are in chapter 7, the end of Jesus’ epic sermon. (If you were absent, click here to watch the sermon back--you won’t want to miss it!)

This Sermon contains some of Jesus’ essential teachings that are still relevant for Christians today, and we want to encourage you to engage with this message throughout the week, not only on Sundays. With that in mind, here are some resources we’ve curated for you based on the Scripture passage we read and the message from Sunday!

Matthew 7:1-6 NIV

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

In these verses, Jesus tells his followers that while they are not to judge or condemn others, they are to have discerning and wise hearts in their interactions with the people around them. Check out the resources below for more information!

Finally, here are some questions that you can use in your personal study to reflect on, whether in journaling, prayer, or conversation.

What “plank” may God be wanting me to be aware of in my life? Am I quick to judge others but slow to hold myself to the same standard? How can I ask the Lord for a more discerning heart?

Know that you are deeply loved and called to share that love with others. We hope to see you next week as we continue to learn and grow alongside you!

Grace and Peace,
